Somewhere between medieval plainchant. electroacoustic improvisation and spectral folk song lies Bow and Arrow, the remarkable collaboration between Lea Bertucci and Michael Beharie. Nylon string classical guitar, delicate wooden flutes and voices intertwine in a space articulated with bells and synthesizers. Bow and Arrow is devotional music for the age of alienation.
Bobby Previte’s first stage appearance came in 1956 at the Niagara Falls Talent Show, where, guitar in hand and adorned in an over-sized suit, he belted out a solo rendition of Elvis Presley’s ‘Hound Dog.’ Eight years later, thinking drumming might be a good way to get girls, he fashioned a bass drum from a rusted garbage can, a kick pedal from a wire coat hanger wedged between two pieces of linoleum and a rubber ball stuck on top, tom toms from upside-down trash bins, cymbals from aluminum pie plates suspended on plungers, and a box of loose junk for a snare – then practiced for a year in his dark basement with a lone spotlight shining on him before eventually starting a band, the “Devil’s Disciples.” But when they finally got a job at the church he was fired for not having ‘real’ drums. Seeking revenge, he took a job as a paperboy, saved every penny, and a year later bought the drum kit he still uses today in concerts all over the world.
Zosha Warpeha is a composer-performer working in a meditative space at the intersection of contemporary improvisation and folk traditions. Using bowed stringed instruments alongside her own voice, her long-form compositions explore transformations of time and tonality. She performs primarily on Hardanger d’amore, a sympathetic-stringed instrument closely related to the Norwegian Hardanger fiddle. Her current work is informed by the cyclical forms, rhythmic elasticity, and the physical momentum of Nordic folk music.
Tristan Kasten-Krause is a bassist and composer living in New York City, whose work enlarges the minutiae of close tones and subtle gestures. As a bassist he has been credited with providing his “low-end authority to vital New York institutions” (the New Yorker) like Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and The Whitney Biennial, as well as globally at LA’s Disney Hall, Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie, Paris’s Maison de la Radio et de la Musique, Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome and the Ruhrtriennale.

Please dress warmly as the mine is a constant 55°. We have approximately 100 chairs for rent but feel free to bring your own chairs and blankets on the ground are also fine. Wear sturdy shoes for the walk to the mine on gravel roads.
Doors open at 3pm, music starts at 4pm. Please arrive early to allow time to park and walk to the mine, and set up your seating.
