Magic lantern performers Dawn Elliott and Joel Schlemowitz present the most popular of Victorian entertainments: the magic lantern show, with live music by Jeremy D. Slater
The visual enchantment of magic lantern slide projections by Joel Schlemowitz and Dawn Elliott, with live music by intermedia artist and composer Jeremy D. Slater. The Subterranean Magic Lantern Show will be visual journey of hand-painted glass images of the 19th century projected from a magic lantern, including animated effect slides (slip-slides, lever-slides, rackwork-sides), balloon and airship journeys, anthropomorphic animals, antique astronomical imagery, grotesques and fancies, arctic explorations, and the visual fireworks of the Chromotrope and ink-infused tank slide. The show will include a live score performed by Jeremy D. Slater, who has previously performed with Schlemowitz’s magic lantern projections at Microscope Gallery in NYC.
Elliott and Schlemowitz have received awards from the Victorian Society NY and the Magic Lantern Society UK for their magic lantern performances.

Jeremy D. Slater has exhibited and performed in the US and internationally using field recordings, guitar, objects, ambient noise, as well as creating single and multiple channel videos, and installations with sound and ephemeral sculpture.

Please dress warmly as the mine is a constant 55°. We have approximately 100 chairs for rent this year but feel free to bring your own chairs and blankets on the ground are also fine. Wear sturdy shoes for the walk to the mine on gravel roads. Please arrive 15 minutes early to allow time to park and walk to the mine.
